Awesome Snickerdoodle Recipe

This snickerdoodle recipe has been one of my favorites since I was a little boy. It seems to be the one cookie that I can never get enough of.

My favorite way to eat these is to dip them in milk when they are hot out of the oven. Of course, you do have to let them cool slightly so they don't fall apart when you try to pick them up.

Snickerdoodles

If you are health conscious, try the lighter version. They still taste great and only have a portion of the fat and sugar (meaning that they only have a portion of the calories). If you just can't bear to cut sugar or fat, eating a few less cookies has the exact same effect.

Ingredients:

Regular Version
1 1/2 cups butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3 teaspoons cream of tartar
4 cups flour
Lighter Version
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup applesauce
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3 teaspoons cream of tartar
5 cups flour
Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:
In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Cream together the butter and both sugars. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and roll them in the cinnamon sugar. Place the balls on a greased cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 8 - 10 minutes. If you make larger balls, flatten them slightly before putting them in the oven.

Tip: If you use the lighter version, use the same directions as the regular version, except put the applesauce in when you put the butter in. Also take the cookies out of the oven when they are still puffy.
