Amazing, Yet Easy Biscuit Recipe
This amazing, yet easy biscuit recipe produces
great biscuits every time. You'll never have a dry biscuit with this
recipe!
These make a great side for any meal. Eat them plain or with butter and
jam. Even though biscuits and jam are my favorite, these work well for
biscuits and gravy too.

Ingredients:
2 cups whole-wheat flour
2 cups white flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1/3 cup butter (or shortening)
1/3 cup applesauce
1 1/2 cups milk
| Tip:
We like to use all whole-wheat flour. On the other
hand, you can make them with all white flour too. |
Directions:
Mix the dry ingredients together, and cut the
butter
into it. Mix the applesauce and the milk together, and then add to the
dry mixture. Mix the dough until just moistened.
| Tip:
Cutting butter into flour is a technique often used
when making biscuits or pastries. The easiest way to do this is to add
the butter to the flour (it needs to be soft, not melted). Then, use a
pastry cutter (or fork if you don't have a pastry cutter) to mash the
butter into the flour. The butter will start breaking into smaller and
smaller pieces. You are done when they are pea size or
smaller. |
On a floured surface, knead the dough 10-12
times.
Roll out the dough until it is 1/2 inch - 5/8 inch thick. Cut out circles with
a 3” round biscuit cutter and place close together (touching) on an
ungreased cookie sheet or cake pan. Bake at 450° F for 10 minutes, until
lightly browned.
| Tip:
If you don't have a biscuit
cutter you can use a cup. |
